The SCORRE Conference is about more than giving a speech. It’s about more than a workshop. It’s even about more than making you a better communicator.
Inevitably, at the end of every one of these conferences, we hear the same stories:
- “This changed my life.”
- “I learned to believe in myself.”
- “I realized that my story matters.”
Just last night, as our students finished their final talks for the week, one person told me what the conference meant to him. He couldn’t say enough good things about how this had changed the way he presents the truth.
“Outstanding. Life-changing, truly. And I know a lot of people say that, but what I will take home will be something totally different from what I brought here.”
Why does this happen? Because this conference isn’t really about giving speeches; in fact, speaking isn’t about giving a speech. It’s about confidence. And the SCORRE Conference helps you develop your personal confidence through a few simple, but oft-neglected, disciplines.
Discipline #1: Prepare
The SCORRE Method is the backbone of our conference, and the main takeaway for many attendees is the six-step preparation process.
They use this method so much for every speech that it becomes ingrained into their communication habits. When it comes time to presenting a message, most can’t help but “SCORRE” their presentations.
For those who are especially talented and used to “winging it,” we challenge them with this intentional preparation process that instills confidence and assurance long before the speech is actually given.
Discipline #2: Practice
Perhaps, what makes this conference so unique is its practical emphasis. This is not an event where you will leave with a bunch of head knowledge you have to apply.
Students are paired with coaches and are responsible for preparing and delivering three different talks to their groups — one per night. Then, the group critiques and gives them feedback.
Because we are so intentional about practice, you will already have developed the initial “muscle memory” of preparing and delivering a talk. All you have to do is continue.
Discipline #3: Believe
Lastly, and most importantly, the SCORRE conference teaches you to believe — in yourself and the message you have to share with the world.
Our coaching staff cares so much about other people that they do far more than train you in giving speeches. They find a passion or unlock a secret fear in you, so that your true message can come out.
We believe that communication can change the world. And we believe that you have something to say.
Our goal by the end of the workshop is you will, too.
Today, we’re saying goodbye to all our students who aren’t sticking around for the “Premiere” part of the conference (more on that tomorrow!).
